General Summary

Certified Pharmacy Technician I assists with preparation and distribution of medications. The Certified Pharmacy Technician I position requires specialized pharmacy education, training, and subsequent certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) or comparable entity. The Certified Pharmacy Technician I role is eligible for advanced technician positions based upon job performance and successful completion of requirements for advancement established in the Pharmacy Technician Career Ladder criteria grids.

Essential Functions:

  • Pursuant to the needs and offerings of the hiring department, essential job accountabilities may include the following:
  • Receives and stocks deliveries of pharmaceuticals and other supplies.
  • Prepares, packages, and labels medications prior to dispensing.
  • Delivers medications to care areas within the hospital.
  • Delivers medications to off-site locations.
  • Manages pharmacy inventory management, including use of electronic inventory management systems.
  • Monitors product expirations and removing outdated stock from inventory.
  • Responds to product recalls.
  • Compounds non-sterile and sterile medication preparations.
  • Cleans and disinfects procedures.
  • Performs clerical duties such as answering telephones and maintaining adequate supplies.
  • Identifies at least one area of specialized skill or expertise.
  • Trains/mentors new pharmacy technicians and pharmacy interns.
  • Maintains sufficient additional criteria as outlined in the Pharmacy Technician Career Ladder criteria grids.

  • Protects sensitive patient data per HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
  • Reasonable flexibility for occasional work outside of normally scheduled shifts based on the needs of the pharmacy department and the hospital.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED Required

Work Experience:

  • No experience.

Licenses:

  • Certified Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire Required or
  • Advanced Certified Pharmacy Technician Upon Hire Required

Driver's License Statement:

Must possess a valid driver's license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
