Job Description:

Under general supervision, performs electrocardiograph and stress tests utilizing clinical knowledge and professional judgment within the parameters of professional and departmental standards and protocols. Assesses and provides care for the patient prior to, during and post testing. Prepares and communicates all pertinent information related to testing procedure.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Accountabilities:

  1. Possesses the knowledge and skills level to administer treadmill and pharmacological protocols for stress tests which includes: monitor, record, and interpret EKG tracings for diagnostic purposes, determine appropriate testing protocol, recognize presence of permanent pace maker, calculate and record diagnostic parameters, monitor and evaluate patient tolerance to test including chest pain, submit test to physician. 2Responsible for patient safety including recognizing cardiac arrhythmias and respond according to emergency protocols utilizing BLS skills and obtaining emergency medical equipment.
  2. Provides care to patient: obtain history, assesses patient condition, collects and interprets clinical information for appropriateness for ordered test, explains procedure, obtains consent, provides personal care/hygiene
  3. Assists cardiologist with suctioning for TEE procedure.
  4. Performs electrocardiograms. Possesses knowledge of rhythm recognition to notify physician of abnormal EKG and patient's total condition throughout the test.
  5. Maintains clinical information: enters and retrieves patient data from software applications (Epic and Epiphany)
  6. Maintains operational knowledge of Noninvasive Cardiology equipment with ability to troubleshoot this equipment.
  7. Performs clerical duties: schedule procedures utilizing knowledge of test codes, inventory management, transport tracking
  8. Trains/precepts new employees

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • Preferred 6-12 months.
  • Minimum Education:
    • High School or G.E.D.
  • Required Certification:
    • istration CCT
  • Required Courses:
    • Successful completion of Basic EKG course for cardiac arrhythmias or equivalent BLS
  • Physical Demands:
    • Frequent standing/walking
    • Lifts supplies/equipment/patients
