Job Description:
Under general supervision of the Medical Director, the Manager-Noninvasive Cardiology, and the department supervisor performs a variety of diagnostic cardiac ultrasound procedures at an advanced specialist skill and knowledge level. Serves as Lead Echo Technologist for the Noninvasive Echocardiography Department. Assists in selecting, training, orienting, and evaluating staff. Prepares work schedules and makes recommendations for personnel actions.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs all ultrasound techniques and examinations such as, adult echocardiograms, preps and acquires stress echocardiograms, pediatric echocardiograms & peds clinic, 3D echo, research studies, assists the physicians with transesophageal echocardiograms, operative transesophageal echocardiograms, mitral valve clips and transcatheter aortic valve replacements.
- Supervises, assists, and evaluates students in the clinical education setting.
- Obtains intravenous access and administers intravenous contrast agents such as Definity and Optison. Performs Saline Bubble Studies.
- Prepares preliminary echocardiogram reports and measurements for physicians.
- Performs portable tests in patient rooms when necessary.
- Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably.
- Explains procedures to patients.
- Responsible for coordination of the department Quality Improvement plan in compliance with current ICAEL/IAC Standards & the effort to obtain ICAEL/IAC recertification.
- Clerical duties such as, scheduling patients, ensuring accurate billing codes, answering phones.
- Maintains equipment in efficient operating order; performs preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis; contacts Biomed Department for major malfunctions.
- Oversees inventory control and ordering supplies and equipment.
- Responsible for scheduling and staffing for inpatient and ambulatory sites.
- Responsible for payroll entry.
- Responsible for Echo exam report error corrections and documentation compliance in the Echocardiac reporting system (Xcelera), and for documentation and reporting compliance of Critical Findings.
- Responsible for planning, implementation and coordination of training for Echo staff on procedural techniques & protocols, technology upgrades and advanced cardiac procedure applications in support of the System’s Heart & Vascular service line.
- Knowledge and routine use of digital image storage system (PACS) and associated workflow software.
Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree from an accredited program in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography preferred
- Bachelor's Degree required
- Registered Pediatric Echocardiology Technologist required
- BLS required
- Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.
- 5 years or more of experience as an Echocardiography Technologist
