Behavioral Science Education Specialist - Residency Program - Day
Part time (56 hours biweekly) with the option of changing to Full time

Job Description:
Under the general supervision of the Residency Program Director-Family Practice, develops and coordinates the implementation of a curriculum in Psychiatry and Behavioral Science for the Family Practice Residency Program.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Develops and coordinates the implementation of a curriculum in Psychiatry and Behavioral Science for the Family Medicine Residency Program. This curriculum must meet the “Essentials” for Family Practice residency training as outlined by the RRC of the ACGME.
- Teaches patient-centered interviewing and office-based counseling skills through direct observation and supervision which may include videotape review and critique of doctor-patient encounters.
- Instructs residents and medical students in the assessment and management of psychological disorders and conditions commonly encountered in primary care, promotes awareness of behavioral health community resources and assists with referrals.
- Coordinates/conducts behavioral science lectures.
- Leads or facilitates support groups and Balint seminars for residents.
- Oversees use of standardized patients for competency acquisition and assessment. Assists in the development of new standardized patient scenarios as necessary for the acquisition of necessary skill sets in doctor-patient communication.
- Advises physician faculty in the development and implementation of remedial interventions for identified residents.
Qualifications
- Minimum Experience:
- 3 - 5 years
- Minimum Education:
- Doctorate (Ph.D.) (Psychology)
- Minimum Field Of Expertise:
- Behavioral science, family therapy, psychology
- Physical Demands:
- Frequent prolonged standing/walking
- Skills:
- Excellent written and oral communications and interpersonal skills; teaching skills
