Assistant Craftsman - Gettysburg Hospital - Full Time Days

Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the Foreman, assists craftsmen (i.e., mechanic, electrician, carpenter, plumber) by performing a variety of general, routine maintenance, renovation and servicing operations throughout the hospital plant and area. May perform a variety of groundskeeping duties.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists craftsmen (mechanic, carpenter, electrician, plumber) with the maintenance, repair, renovation and installation of systems and equipment which provide power, heating, lighting, air conditioning and other services for the hospital.
  2. Performs minor maintenance repairs.
  3. Performs minor repairs on electrical equipment and machinery and to buildings and facilities, including painting, plastering, carpentry, plumbing or electrical power.
  4. Assists maintenance mechanics in the servicing and repair of machinery and mechanical equipment.
  5. Keeps work areas orderly, clean and safe. Ensures proper care in the use of equipment and supplies.
  6. Picks up trash and litter; removes trash bags from containers and replaces bags.
  7. Operates incinerator; checks pressure and temperature gauges. Cleans and maintains incinerator.
  8. Performs snow removal for extended periods of time using hand shovel, snow blower, walk behind salt spreader, small tractor or truck with plow. Requires frequent bending and lifting up to 50 lbs, extended exposure to cold and wind conditions.
  9. Applies snow melting chemicals when necessary on roads, walkways and outside staircases.
  10. Attends meetings as required.
  11. Performs other related duties as identified.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 6 months
  • Minimum Education:
    • High School or G.E.D.
  • Physical Demands:
    • Heavy physical effort (lift/carry 26 to 50 lbs)
    • Frequent prolonged standing/walking
    • Pushes/pulls or moves/lifts heavy equipment/supplies
    • Manual dexterity and mobility
    • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
