Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Manager-Clinical Operations, manages the daily clinical operations and work activities of professional nursing and nursing support staff in assigned practices. The Ambulatory Nursing Coordinator works collaboratively in a triad model with the Medical Directors and Medical Group Operations Director to ensure access to services and quality of care for patients. This position will have clinical oversight of registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical assistants, and technicians. This position is responsible for multiple practice locations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  1. Collaborates with Medical Group Operations Director and Practice Managers to recommend clinical staffing levels as per professional organizations’ staffing guidelines. Structures an adequate staffing mix of competent personnel by supervising and approving the development, preparation, and maintenance of clinical staffing schedules that meet practice/site and ANA staffing principles.
  2. Ensures that appropriate clinical standards and practices are developed and implemented as a result of research and non-research findings. Maintain established policies and procedures, objectives, quality assessment, safety, environmental, and infection control standards as per National Patient Safety goals, agency, and state regulations.
  3. Identifies patient/client needs and ensures implementation of quality programs to meet those needs; uses outcomes data to direct quality improvement action plans. Encourages staff to resolve patient/family concerns in a timely manner and assists staff when necessary.
  4. Initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions using a Just Culture model and as per the System’s Human Resources policies in collaboration with Practice Managers and Medical Group Operations Director.
  5. Acts as a change agent in the identification, development, planning, implementation, and value measurement of clinical care strategies to support and integrate quality patient care and professional practice. Provides clinical analysis and evaluation of clinical care and recommends revision of clinical systems, processes, and workflow to ensure achievement of positive patient outcomes for the WellSpan Medical Group (WMG).
  6. Acts as a role model/mentor to Clinical Operations Supervisor (COS), nurses and staff; creates an empowered shared decision-making environment; promotes staff participation in Shared Decision-making activities; establishes a vision/goal for succession planning.
  7. Consults with other specialists, including but not limited to: Practice Transformation Specialists, Clinical Education Team, etc., as required and adjusts clinical care processes as indicated to ensure optimal patient care.
  8. Provides direct clinical oversight of registered nurses in practices in which the Clinical Operations Supervisor (COS) is an LPN.
  9. Provides clinical work direction for Clinical Operations Supervisor (COS) and Practice Managers to ensure safe and efficient care, employee job satisfaction and service excellence for patients, family, and our community.
  10. Serves as the clinical leadership resource, mentor, and coach for WMG COS’s, whom represent clinical management for primary and specialty care practices.
  11. Collaborates with the practice manager, operations administrator, and human resources to review, interview, and select qualified COS applicants.
  12. Develops and implements orientation and onboarding schedules for all newly hired COS’s, which includes the pairing of mentors.
  13. Serves as a primary advisor to the COS for purposes of retention, observing, polishing, and signing off skills on an as needed basis while providing leadership coaching.
  14. Assesses the COS throughout the 90-day probationary period to close gaps in learning. Collaborates with practice manager to develop changes in performance goals or develop performance improvement plans as necessary.
  15. Collaborates with practice managers and operations administrators to develop annual clinical performance goals and provide invaluable input for COS annual performance evaluations.
  16. Conducts site visits at clinical sites/facilities across the system to observe the environment of care and clinical staff. At the request of the Practice manager assists in the evaluation of clinical staff performance by shadowing patient care and evaluating skills/competencies/workflows (as applicable). Aids with staff counseling and establishment of staff performance action plans.
  17. Provides direct clinical care as a practice registered nurse for a set number of hours monthly, as set forth by the Manager, Clinical Operations.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Notes:
    • Other combinations of formal education, training and experience may be considered.

 

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 5 - 7 years

 

  • Minimum Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree
    • RN Preferred

 

  • Preferred Education:
    • Master's Degree

 

  • Required Certification:
    • Registration Certification as a Nurse Executive, must be obtained within five years of hire
