Advanced Emergency Medical Technician - Spring Grove - Day/Evening/Night

Job Description:

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator – Pre-Hospital Services or Regional Manager Pre-Hospital Services and the direct voice order of the Medical Commander, responds to EMS calls and performs a variety of functions related to the care and treatment of patients suffering from urgent and emergent disease and/or injury states in accordance with appropriate rules, regulations, and protocols. according to PA DOH EMS Act and scope of practice.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Responds to EMS calls whether emergency or routine transport, observes safety policies and operates an emergency vehicle with due regard for others.

2. Provides health care instruction/education to patient and family members.

3. Prepares patients for scheduled procedures and assists in patient assessment.

4. Prepares, hangs, monitors, and discontinues I.V. fluids.

5. Responds to emergency non-emergency calls as an Advanced Life Support Provider when appropriate, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) EMS protocols.

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Education:
    • High School or G.E.D.
  • Minimum Experience:
    • 1 year in busy 911 system
  • Req Cert/Registration:
    • Advanced Emergency Medical Technician-Basic (AEMT) certification in PA; BCLS certification
  • Req Course(s)/Training:
    • Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course (EVOC); Emergency Medical Services Vehicle Operator (EMSVO); National Incident Management System (NIMS) 100, 200, 700, 800 – Hazardous Materials Awareness
  • Physical Demands:
    • Frequent prolonged standing/walking
    • Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfers patients
    • Must be able to lift 60 pounds minimum in equipment (i.e., monitor and gear bags).
    • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching
  • Working Conditions: 
    • May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
    • Regularly exposed to the risk of bloodborne diseases
    • Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances
    • Exposed to unpleasant elements (accidents, injuries, and illness)
    • Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
    • Handles emergency or crisis situations
    • May perform emergency care
    • Occasionally subjected to irregular hours
    • Requires judgment/action which could result in death of patient
  • Skills: Other
    • Must possess a valid driver’s license in the current state of residence. Driving record must meet requirements established by WellSpan Risk Management.
