Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Administrator and Practice Manager, performs acupuncture therapy to patients and clients according to the principles and practices of acupuncture and works collaboratively with other providers and department personnel to care for the patient/client. Acupuncture is a specialist area of holistic medicine drawing its origins from the Chinese philosophy of Qi. Acupuncture focuses on manipulating and maintaining the balance of “life energy” in the body with the insertion of needles into various acupuncture points. The positioning of these needles is dependent of the type of illness or health condition that needs to be treated.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Develops, implements & coordinates acupuncture therapy and treatment plans with patients/clients. Conducts a detailed diagnosis and collects data on a patient’s life style, diet, health history, and symptoms before developing such treatment plan.
  2. Provides education and information to patients, clients, employers, community groups on the benefits of acupuncture and other holistic medicine services available.
  3. Provides accurate application of acupuncture to treat of variety of emotional, mental and physical disorders or to maintain general well-being and health.
  4. Practices clean needle techniques and counts needles per policy.
  5. Provides recognized and approved techniques using equipment and products only if the acupuncturist has the necessary knowledge, training, or skill to competently execute the technique.
  6. When treating minor patients/clients, follows System policies and procedures of requiring that a parent or guardian be present in the treatment room during a procedure.
  7. Participates in marketing and community events as requested.
  8. Participates in programs across the continuum of the System to provide patients/clients access to the beneficial elements of holistic medicine services to promote overall healing and good health.
  9. Provides treatments only where there is an expectation that it will be advantageous to the patient/ client and will refer to an appropriate health care professional when indicated in the interest of the patient.
  10. Maintains patient/client records, as required by profession, with accurate and timely documentation in the health record per System/Department policy.
  11. Maintains current licensure in the State of Pennsylvania and adheres to all standards of professional conduct in keeping license current, including continuing education hours and maintenance of certificates of completion. Display license, with expiration date in a conspicuous location.
  12. Maintains patient/client dignity at all times.

Required Education & Experience

  • Minimum Experience:
    • 3 - 5 years
  • Minimum Education:
    • Pa. board certified as an acupuncturist
  • Required Certification:
    • PA board certified as an acupuncturist; PA Medical Board license as an acupuncturist
  • Preferred Certification:
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
